Web RTC, when used as VoIP technology, can produce amazing results. It helps to remove domains from the hands of a few exclusive controllers, releasing it to all the developers out there. As such, businesses can quickly and easily add extra bits of code to produce new features, interactions and even real-time video.
While it may seem easy, there are a few mistakes that many beginners (and even experts!) make in web RTC. Here are some of the most common mistakes that are easy to avoid.
1. Only testing locally
Many people solely rely on local testing. While this is a good initial idea to check that everything is working properly, there is no guarantee that the different network configurations around the world will accept the changes made as equally. Real-world testing allows you to expose problems more efficiently than local testing, so make sure to do both before anything goes live.
2. Using outdated signalling servers
While people might argue against this, experts know that there is no single open source signalling server for Web RTC that is always reliable. There are a number of contenders at the moment, but these are often updated at different times, and one system may not be scalable or appropriate for your project in the long term. As well as asking experts for advice with the best signalling server for you, ensure that everything is up to date, as this will allow optimal Web RTC usage.
Web RTC is complicated, and while businesses are increasingly turning to RTC, there are very few people in-house who have the skills necessary to do this; something which is even more relevant for small and medium-sized enterprises. Outsourcing means that your RTC needs can be determined by experts, who will be able to complete the work quickly and efficiently. It may also reduce costs overall, as you won’t need to spend time and money on training members of your own team for something experts can do in minutes.
